This is possible because, unlike a pultrusion process where the resin is applied to the fiber before it enters the die, with CRTM the resin is injected directly into the die for better control of fiber alignment and resin kinetics.

Our teams researched the best combination of additive and carrier resin for the application. Because the toothbrushes were molded in both clear and opaque resins, the team had to explore two different avenues—one that preserved clarity and one that retained opacity. As an added benefit, Avient designed a universal carrier that enabled the manufacturer to use the same additives across a variety of olefins, elastomers, and other resins.

Avient announces new long fiber reinforced composites formulated with post-industrial recycled resin content, for applications including office furnishings and outdoor adventure gear. This expands the product line that launched earlier this year with PA6 resin derived from reclaimed end-of-life fishing nets.  Formulations also can use varying levels of post-industrial recycled resin content 

Bottles and closures have traditionally been made using virgin resin. Injection and fill pressures will be different with PCR versus virgin resin due to viscosity inconsistencies of the PCR  Incorporating PCR into closures is reported to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 71% over the use of virgin resin¹.
