The automated pultrusion process fabricates continuous glass or carbon fiber-reinforced, constant cross-section profiles with consistent, uniform properties. Each cradle brace is a two-foot long, rectangular bar with a “U” shape machined into our engineering team developed and analyzed three options: a unidirectional, hybrid carbon and glass fiber profile; a unidirectional carbon fiber profile; and finally, a profile made with both a unidirectional carbon fiber and a transverse engineered fabric, which had the advantage of minimizing any potential cracks from propagating.

The first propeller designs used a 60% long glass fiber reinforced nylon 6 composite, and testing on higher horsepower motors was successful. Complēt™ MT long glass fiber reinforced nylon 6 composite was selected because of the extra durability provided, making this solution ideal for demanding applications like Piranha’s propellers.

This new reSound REC TPE is a 65 Shore A hardness and contains 25 percent PCR content from recycled polypropylene (PP). It is naturally gray, colorable, and suitable for injection molding or overmolding onto PP. Light-weighting solutions that replace heavier traditional materials like metal, glass and wood, which can improve fuel efficiency in all modes of transportation and reduce carbon footprint

Glass fiber-reinforced polyester is the most prevalent composite used in boats and ships while aramid fiber reinforcement is used in key areas of high-performance sailboats, such as the bow and keel sections. Glass fiber-reinforced composites are also used in other electrical transmission and distribution applications such as insulators, arresters, and pole line hardware. Organo sheets are another kind of laminate and can be made from carbon, glass, or aramid fiber fabrics.

If filling problems exist in thin walled parts, adding flow channels or minor changes in wall thickness can alter the flow. In some cases, it may be necessary to add a second gate to properly fill the parts. Vents should be placed at the last place to fill and in areas where weld lines occur.

This latest addition to the Additives for Recycling (A4R) portfolio of solutions helps bring incompatible polymers, such as PP and PE, together by forming them into a homogenous polymer mixture that increases mechanical properties based on polymer modification and will be exhibited at the upcoming Fakuma International Trade Fair for Plastics Processing. Spiral flow testing which has been traditionally used for thermoplastics provides a comparative analysis of a material's ability to fill a part. Transitions between wall thickness should be gradual to reduce flow problems such as back fills and gas traps.
