ESCR Resistance in rHDPE

Cesa™ Tough™ A4R Additive to Boost ESCR in Recycled HDPE

Achieve Significant Environmental Stress Crack Resistance for Post-Consumer Recycled Materials

Push PCR Content Further in Demanding Applications
Recycled HDPE (r-HDPE) plays a critical role in advancing circularity—but Environmental Stress Crack Resistance (ESCR) limitations can restrict how much post-consumer recycled (PCR) content you can actually use. Cesa™ Tough™ A4R changes that. This polyolefin additive technology modifies polymer rheology and strengthens polymer architecture to protect against degradation in aggressive environments, so you can increase PCR ratios without compromising performance or recyclability.

Cesa™ Tough™ A4R prolongs time-to-failure due to stress cracking, delivering ESCR performance increases of more than 100% in bent strip tests. It also boosts mechanical performance, increasing melt flow by over 20% for enhanced processsability, strain at break by over 35% to help reduce risk of material failure, and impact strength by over 140% to extend product lifespan. These improvements support higher PCR ratios, enabling the use of more recycled content without sacrificing durability. The additive is formulated to maintain recyclability and does not negatively affect the recyclability of the material, while also helping to meet EU regulations and supporting legal and regulatory compliance as well as sustainability goals.
